Don’t Let it Make Your Life Less Lovable

You wake up in the morning and you think that today might be the day you don’t have to deal with pain and discomfort. But sure enough, it’s there just as sure as the sun starts to rise. Jaw pain in Boise is something patients often struggle with, but it’s not uncommon for it to go undiagnosed or even misdiagnosed as a sign of another health issue. It’s time you talked to the team at Bauter Dentistry & Aesthetics. Why? Because we know how difficult it can be to live every day silently struggling with Treasure Valley TMJ.

What is TMJ or TMD?

TMJ is a helpful abbreviation for something called your temporomandibular joints that are easily located by touching your jaw just under your ears. When they’re out of alignment or malfunctioning it can lead to TMD or temporomandibular disorder. The disorder forces you to live a life full of unwanted, unnecessary jaw pain in Boise. It’s estimated that about 15 percent of Americans struggle with TMD that’s sometimes caused by:

  • An improper bite
  • Heavy jaw trauma
  • Clenching and grinding
  • Tightening from stress
  • Arthritis or osteoarthritis

Unfortunately, the causes of TMD aren’t always clear, but the same can’t be said for treatment solutions.

Do I Have TMD Symptoms?

Treasure Valley TMJ patients report a variety of symptoms related to TMD. However, most of the time they think it’s related to something else. We’ve met patients who have been experiencing severe pain and discomfort in the face, head, and body that’s both short-lived and long-term. Patients commonly report:

  • Facial pain or a “tired” feeling
  • Limited ability to chew or speak
  • Locked jaws both open and closed
  • Swelling on either side of the face
  • Unexplained toothaches
  • Ear pain or ringing (tinnitus)
  • Clicking or popping noises

There’s even more we could say, but if you’re feeling any of these symptoms, talk with us!

Your Treatment Options

At Bauter Dentistry & Aesthetics, relief for your jaw and neck pain can be found through our focus on centric relation treatment methods. Dr. Bauter will first evaluate your bite, ask you questions about the pain and discomfort you feel, then begin your treatment regimen. He’ll then provide you with a custom-fit bite appliance that will gradually change how your teeth meet when you close your mouth. Once your jaw has grown accustomed to its new position, Dr. Bauter will closely monitor and make small adjustments to the surfaces of your teeth to complement the new jaw position.
